HYGIENIST
SERVICES

STANDARD HYGIENE TREATMENT

If you have bleeding and inflamed gums, or sensitive teeth and receding gums we may recommend a longer appointment with one of our dental therapists.

Our therapists specialise in the management of gum disease and will give you the best preventative advice as well as providing the best treatment to manage this problem. This service involves oral hygiene instruction including advice on toothbrushing, interdental cleaning aids with demonstration, dietary advice, manual plaque removal and ultrasonic plaque, calculus and stain removal.

If your teeth are particularly sensitive there is the option to have this performed under local anaesthetic to increase your comfort.

Depending on the degree of gum disease present, these can be undertaken at 3, 6 or 12 monthly intervals.

ADVANCED HYGIENE TREATMENT

In some instances where the supporting tissues of the teeth have become compromised and bone loss is present you may require more involved hygiene treatments. An x-ray showing the degree of bone loss present and a full mouth charting of pocketing may be required before a series of appointments to thoroughly clean and debride all surfaces of your teeth ensue.

The goal of this treatment is to stabilise any gum disease present and allow you to maintain your dentition pain and disease free.

Once this is established we would normally advise you have your gum health maintained with regular standard hygiene treatments.

AIR FLOW POLISH

Any of the above treatments can be combined with an air flow polish. This uses a mixture of air, water and fine powder to gently and effectively remove surface staining and a bacterial biofilm that is the initiator of gum disease. This treatment can also be undertaken on its own when a more cosmetic result is requested.
